Don’t Bug Me...I’m Reading!

School is almost out and summer is right around the corner. Children through the age of 13 are encouraged to indulge in their favorite recreational reading and win prizes by joining the Mission Branch Library 2006 Summer Reading Club. Studies show that if kids read during the summer, they maintain or gain reading skills for the start of school in the fall. The summer reading club runs between June 17 and August 12, and here is how it works:

Inspired by last year's successful Gente y Cuentos program at Mission High School, Mission Branch librarian Martha Neves is once again using Latin-American literature to promote interest in reading among Spanish speaking youth. According to Neves, “We wanted to do something like this for so long that it makes sense to continue. Plus, working with the schools fits with our library's outreach goals, and I've really enjoyed introducing young people to these wonderful works of literature.”
Mission Branch Library to Celebrate Cinco de Mayo

The Mission Branch of the San Francisco Public Library invites the neighborhood to a special open house on Saturday, May 6. Drop by everyone's favorite branch and enjoy free refreshments and entertainment for the whole family. Festivities begin at 12:00 noon.
