Through August: The Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts invites you to the upcoming Encuentros Installation Art Exhibition at MCCLA. This special collaboration between MCCLA, SomArts, The Mexican Museum, and Galería de la Raza was initiated by The De Young Museum and local curator Rene Yañez and titled “Encuentros.” These arts organizations were invited to curate art exhibits in conjunction with the Chicano Visions: American Painters on the Verge Exhibition at the De Young. This exhibit takes place at MCCLA through Sept. 29. The Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts is at 2868 Mission Street, between 24th and 25th streets. BATS Improv's Battle of the Bay Theatresports pits teams representing five San Francisco neighborhoods and the North, South and East Bays against each other to compete in improvised games, songs and scenes inspired by audience suggestions and rated by a panel of judges. Come cheer for your favorite stomping ground all summer long! The Viva La Mission! team includes Dave Dennison, Kimberly MacLean, and Jason Leal. Magical Acts Ritual Theater presents Terrence McNally's "Corpus Christi" directed by Angelique Heddings June 1-4 and 8-11. This is a retelling of the Passion Play, the story of Christ's life and death - this time in a 20th century setting and from a gay perspective. 8 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays, and 2 p.m. Sundays. Through May: Southern Exposure presents its Artists in Education Public Art Projects on view at 16th Street Bart through the month of May. A series of panels will be displayed at the 16th Street BART plaza created through Southern Exposure's After School Program at the Columbia Park Boys & Girls Club. The panels reframe hidden treasures and often overlooked flora, textures, favorite eateries, and sounds in the area. This work is based on research, in-depth explorations and conceptual experiments with cartography.
